We have come a long way since Henry Ford introduced us to his Model T Ford a hundred years ago. At the time, that jerky vehicle had to be crank handled to make it start, and with what gusto it started! Those thin wheels certainly did nothing for making a comfortable ride, but the population of the time thought that it was the most wonderful invention. It brought a new way of life for speedy travel time, and it certainly was, when compared to moving around in a horse and carriage. Shopping or visiting friends became blissful and no longer a chore.

Progress in design was made, to the degree that turning indicators just popped out of the body framework and one no longer had to put ones arm out of the window to show which way you wanted to turn, regardless whether or not it was raining or very windy. More progress introduced cigarette lighters. Today these are for charging cell phone batteries. Air conditioning in the more luxurious models was automatically installed. Of course, today you would not consider buying a car that did not have it.

Then we had the various fashion fads. Long sleek cars, cars with exaggerated tail fins, heavy very comfortable cars that guzzled up petrol – no good for today’s market! They were however, an absolute joy to travel in, as they just seemed to purr along, no matter what the road conditions were like.

The computerization of modern cars tell us what to do and when. In keeping with today’s market, we now have bluetooth. Some cars have it installed in their system automatically; others have it put in as necessary. Its usefulness certainly enables one to carry on ones business calls hands free without impairing driving ability and concentration.

Car navigation systems are a plus for finding your way around unknown territories and cutting down time. Otherwise, you could be driving around in circles trying to locate the necessary streets that you want. Another wonderful innovation is the backup parking camera. It certainly prevents what could be an awkward minor collision happening.

Standard MP3 players enable iPod connections. CD players are automatic in practically every car and the keyless ignition is an added gadget. This works from the remote when opening up, simply pressing a button to switch on. Reminds one of a “Noddy Car” from childhood days There is also the remote ignition button that heats up the car in winter, puts the cooling system on in summer and locks all doors simultaneously

Let us not forget the introduction of the Electric Car. Surely, it is just a matter of a short time before all cars will work on this system. Maybe it will not be long before we will find a flying car on the market. This will make parking so easy; you simply set it down in a parking bay without any fuss. Maybe it will be a hover car or just a heli-car.

Cars become niftier and more manageable even at high speeds. What with being comfort caring with steering wheel and adjustable seating to suit your personal body frame, they are no longer an object transporting you from point A to B, but a joy to own and be proud of, with time, surely, adding on many more gadgets that are us
